UK fashion retailer Monsoon has unveiled a ‘Rent Monsoon’ bridalwear hire service in time for peak wedding season.
In partnership with rental fashion platform My Wardrobe HQ, the Rent Monsoon offering is a capsule collection of bridalwear and occasion dresses. The products are available via a dedicated section on the Monsoon website, and include bridesmaid dresses and other formalwear.
Naomi Robertson, buying & merchandise director at Monsoon, said: “Dress rental allows our customers to wear and return our most gorgeous bridal and occasion pieces, ever widening our reach and giving modern women a more affordable and sustainable choice.”
Rent Monsoon consumers can hire the goods for up to 14 days, with pieces delivered directly to their home. Once used, they use the packaging and returns label provided and send the item back for free dry cleaning and restocking for no extra cost.
Monsoon said new-season styles will be added regularly.
Rental is viewed by many as a more sustainable way of consuming fashion items, reducing the chance of garments being bought and only used once. It is a way of keeping goods in circulation for longer and allows multiple people to get value from the same piece.
Last month, department store chain John Lewis expanded its Hurr fashion rental partnership to cover menswear.
The retailer is offering menswear to rent from brands such as Boss Tailoring, Charles Tyrwhitt, and Hay Life, following in the footsteps of what it described as a successful womenswear rental platform launch in 2022.
Searches for ‘Mens Rental’ consistently appeared in the top 30 search terms on its website over the past 18 months prior to the new hire service being launched, showing there is demand for rental fashion from both men and women.
