Beauty group L’Oréal has added its voice and industry leadership to the move towards more sustainable paper packaging by joining non-governmental organisation (NGO) Canopy’s Pack4Good programme.
Pack4Good brings together brands committed to eliminating the risk of deforestation and forest degradation in their paper packaging, including impacts on ancient and endangered forests. Those signed up to the initiative are contributing to collective efforts to build supply chains that are more transparent, lower risk, and aligned with forest conservation.
L’Oréal said the move is in line with its broader sustainability ambitions across climate, water, biodiversity, and resource use – and the announcement comes after the group’s most comprehensive sustainability campaign to date, in June, to mark World Refill Day 2026, where 18 of its brands raised the profile of refillable packaging in the beauty and personal care sector.
Céline Bomo-Leducq, global sustainable sourcing director at L’Oréal, said: “At L’Oréal Groupe, our transformation is grounded in purpose and action at every stage of our value chain.
“In line with our ‘L’Oréal for the Future’ commitments, joining Pack4Good is a natural step in our sustainability journey. As a global leader, we believe in the importance of protecting the planet’s beauty through more circular and sustainable innovations, including the materials we use to package our products.”
Through Pack4Good, participating companies work toward key environmental pillars, including increasing transparency and due diligence to mitigate supply chain risks; ensuring paper packaging does not contain materials sourced from ancient and endangered forests; maximising recycled content in packaging; and advancing next-generation materials such as agricultural residues and other alternative fibres.
Those involved also promote forest conservation and respect for indigenous and community rights.
Nicole Rycroft, founder & executive director of Canopy, commented: “L’Oreal Groupe is a giant in their sector and looked to as a pacesetter.
“Working with them, alongside other global partners, will accelerate the shift toward more resilient, low-carbon paper packaging supply chains.”
Pack4Good now brings together 566 brands. Earlier this week, Green Retail World reported UK retailer The White Company had joined Canopy to help support the cause.
