More sustainable fibres is the focus for The White Company

‘Transition to more sustainable fibres’: The White Company partners with Canopy

UK retailer The White Company has announced it is working with global non-governmental organisation (NGO) Canopy to source more sustainable fibres and innovative materials for use in its products and packaging.

Canopy’s raison d’etre is to protect the world’s ancient and endangered forests, biodiversity, and climate, by helping organisations source more responsibly.

The NGO operates the packaging-related Pack4Good and textiles-focused CanopyStyle initiatives, and The White Company – which sells fashion and homeware – is joining both programmes. The retailer said the partnership will help keep ancient and endangered forests out of its paper, packaging and textile supply chains while supporting the evolution to more sustainable and innovative fibres in general.

Catherine Hudson, head of ethics & sustainability at The White Company, said: “We’re excited to work with Canopy as part of our ongoing commitment to responsible sourcing.

“Forests play a vital role in tackling climate change and protecting biodiversity, and we recognise the importance of ensuring the materials we use don’t contribute to their loss. By partnering with Canopy, we hope to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable and innovative fibres in our products and packaging.”

The White Company is a certified B Corp, and last year it joined the ‘Cotton Lives On’ cotton recycling programme, which aims to encourage staff to donate clothing products comprising that material and give their unwanted items a second life.

Cotton Lives On is an initiative led by cotton industry groups Cotton Council International and Cotton Incorporated, and helps organisations contribute to a more circular economy and help good causes. The material collected through the scheme is recycled into items such as roll mats which are distributed to people in need.
