B&Q parent Kingfisher on CDP A-List

CDP A-List: JD Sports, Kingfisher and Sainsbury’s represent UK retail on environmental list

CDP – an independent environmental disclosure platform – has revealed its 2025 CDP A-List, and it includes UK retail organisations JD Sports, Kingfisher, and Sainsbury’s.

Almost 20,000 companies were scored in 2025, but just 877 across the globe achieved top tier CDP A-List recognition, with the data showing a steady rise across those gaining inclusion for disclosures related to climate, forests, and water security.

UK-based not-for-profit group CDP sends questionnaires to major corporations and municipalities worldwide, requesting the disclosure of information on climate action, water resource management, and several other environmental initiatives. It then evaluates responses to assess each organisation’s approach to environmental issues.

The companies which achieved a place on the 2025 Corporate CDP A-List represented 4% of those scored. A total of 23 companies were awarded the prestigious ‘Triple A’ for leadership across climate change, forests, and water security.

According to CDP, in 2025, markets continued to signal “the critical importance of reliable environmental information”. Some 640 investors with $127 trillion in assets called on companies to disclose through CDP while more than 270 major buyers requested environmental data from approximately 45,000 suppliers via CDP’s Supply Chain programme.

CDP said this demand “reflects a widening recognition that transparent, decision-ready information is essential for managing risks and identifying Earth-positive opportunities”.

Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP, remarked: “Markets are sending an unmistakable signal: clear, consistent environmental data is indispensable for sound decision-making.

“The momentum behind disclosure in 2025 shows that organisations of every size and sector recognise the value of transparent information to strengthen resilience, support innovation and unlock investment. CDP’s A List reflects the leading examples of this ambition, but the real story lies in the global commitment to making environmental data visible and actionable.”

She added: “As investors, policymakers and companies rely ever more heavily on these insights, disclosure remains one of the most powerful drivers of Earth-positive progress.”

The three UK retailers included in the CDP A-List were all there courtesy of their climate disclosure. Other retail groups included on the list included Spain-based Zara parent company Inditex, and US electricals retailer Best Buy.

Kingfisher, which continues to introduce new sustainability initiatives across its retail estate which includes B&Q and Screwfix, said on LinkedIn: “This is a fantastic recognition of the commitment shown by colleagues, across Kingfisher and our retail banners, in driving sustained and ambitious climate action.

“This also demonstrates our ongoing focus on achieving net zero emissions for both our direct operations and our wider value chain.”
