EV chargers at pubs and restaurants up and down the UK

‘Long-term sustainability’: Believ to install EV chargers across Mitchells & Butlers sites

Pub and restaurant chain Mitchells & Butlers is set to deploy Believ EV chargers across approximately 65 of its sites, with implementation starting this year.

Charge point operator (CPO) Believ will fully fund the installation of its technology at these hospitality sites as part of a move by the UK chain to accelerate its sustainability strategy. Believ says its EV chargers are powered by 100% renewable electricity.

Mitchells & Butlers aims to achieve its goal of being net zero by 2040, and this move is part of the company’s plan to reduce emissions across its network.

Believ said it provides an end-to-end service – from site selection and installation through to ongoing operation and maintenance – and the contract includes electricity supply, maintenance and repairs, software and platform management, as well as customer support.

The CPO will also fully fund all the EV charge point installation costs, including construction, hardware, and electrical work.

Mitchells & Butlers’ house of brands includes Miller & Carter, Ember Inns, All Bar One, Toby Carvery and Harvester. Installation is set to start in mid-2026, and due to the diversity of the hospitality group’s portfolio the project will involve an array of charge point types rolled out to serve different use cases.

Believ said locations with hotels will feature standard plus (22 kW) chargers designed for overnight or extended stays, while restaurants and pubs will receive rapid and ultra-rapid chargers delivering speeds of up to 250 kW.

Every site is set to include one or more fully accessible bay.

Sarah Leggett, estate project manager at Mitchells & Butlers, commented: “This partnership will support our guests and businesses by providing convenient, reliable charging while enhancing the longterm sustainability of our estate.”

Craig Butler, property director at Believ, added: “As EV adoption continues to grow, businesses like Mitchells & Butlers are recognising the importance of offering on-site charging to support customer demand and stay ahead of the curve.

“The variety of locations across their portfolio, from city centre pubs to countryside restaurants, means we can deploy a tailored mix of charge point speeds, providing value and convenience to a wide range of EV drivers.”
