Fashion retailers Burberry and Nobody’s Child have this week announced rental and resale initiatives, respectively.
In a further sign of the growing interest in rental and resale, the two retailers have established new partnerships to meet increased demand for these more circular fashion options.
Burberry has teamed up with fashion rental platform Hurr to offer a selection of its womenswear pieces, including trench coats, tailored heritage pieces, cashmere knitwear and accessories in the brand’s signature check pattern. It forms part of the ReBurberry scheme, which is a selection of services aimed at pushing products that have less environmental impact than traditional lines and which extend the lifecycle of materials.
The Burberry-Hurr service is available in the UK only at this time, and the luxury brand joins other retailers, including John Lewis, Gant, and Mulberry, in working with Hurr, which closed a £7.9 million funding round in 2023 with backing from Praetura Ventures.
Meanwhile, Nobody’s Child has joined forces with resale platform and clothing recycling organisation Reskinned to give consumers a chance to earn money back on their unwanted Nobody’s Child garments.
The takeback scheme enables consumers to get up to £30 off their next Nobody’s Child purchase if they send back their unwanted items. Reskinned’s marketplace helps the goods find a new home and keeps in circulation products that otherwise may be discarded or end up in landfill.
Reskinned also runs its own textiles recycling facility, meaning any items that are not resold can be directed there so materials can be used again where possible. Reskinned already works with numerous retailers, including Seasalt, Dune, and River Island.
Nobody’s Child said of its new resale partnership: “Every piece deserves a second chance to shine.
“Reskinned will make sure they find a loving new home by reselling or repurposing your styles. Any pieces that have reached the end of their life will be responsibly recycled, keeping it out of landfill.”
