Fashion brand Ganni has announced a new partnership with non-profit organisation Canopy which commits the company to ensuring the textiles and paper packaging it uses are free of fibre sourced from climate-critical forests.
As a ‘CanopyStyle’ and ‘Pack4Good’ partner, Ganni is committing to eliminating sourcing from ancient and endangered forests in its supply chains. According to Canopy, preserving forests is one of the fastest, most cost-effective, and impactful strategies for combating climate change.
As part of its sustainability drive, Ganni is also advancing the production of low-carbon, circular, “next-generation” alternatives which includes textiles made from recycled fabrics and packaging made from agricultural residues.
More than 550 fashion brands and retailers have CanopyStyle policies in place, and 444 brands – including, recently, Zara owner Inditex Group – have committed to Pack4Good.
Fashion brand Ganni is a B-Corp so has already committed to minimising social and environmental impact within its business operations. It operates with a goal to reach 50% absolute carbon reduction by 2027 from a 2021 baseline, and it cites materials and innovation among its key pillars in reaching this target.
Lauren Bartley, chief sustainability officer at Ganni, said: “Ganni is thrilled to join the CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives as part of our ongoing effort to become the most responsible version of ourselves.
“We’re proud to collaborate with Canopy in leading a supply chain revolution that ensures the world’s most vital forests remain intact.”
Nicole Rycroft, founder & executive director at Canopy, commented: “By joining the CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives, Ganni aligns itself with fashion’s most progressive players. Together, we have the potential to scale low-impact, next gen solutions to preserve forests and transform the environmental impact of the fashion industry.”
Canopy is bringing the retail industry together to help drive change. The John Lewis Partnership joined its CanopyStyle initiative in 2022, advocating for forest conservation and encouraging innovation in its fabric supply chains.
