Womenswear retailer Nobody’s Child is set to open its tenth standalone boutique store – in Cambridge – on Wednesday 22 July.
The shop, located at the Grand Arcade shopping centre in the city, stands at 1,000 sq ft and has been fitted out with vintage and reclaimed furniture. Nobody’s Child said the fitout was carefully curated by the brand’s in-house team – and the move is indicative of the “conscious” and “considered” fashion retailer image the business continues to maintain.
Grand Arcade is a space which regularly runs sustainability-related events and educational series, with this publication reporting this week about an imminent summer event dedicated to ocean environmental awareness.
Martin Macwhinnie, centre manager at Grand Arcade, told Green Retail World: “As a certified B Corp, Nobody’s Child was a particularly attractive brand for us to partner with.
“We are aware of their ethical approach and their sustainability credentials. Nobody’s Child is a brand we have been in discussion with for some time and we’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to work with them.”
He added: “They have reused upcycled equipment and much of their unitary was fabricated onsite, reducing milage on the shopfit too. This is something we strongly encourage.”
Macwhinnie also noted that a Give Your Best pop-up at Grand Arcade has also reused equipment from the former Russell & Bromley store previously on site, suggesting this is a good way for retailers to minimise their environmental footprint.
Jody Plows, CEO of Nobody’s Child, said: “Opening our new Cambridge store marks an exciting milestone for Nobody’s Child as we continue to grow our physical retail presence across the UK.
“For me personally, it’s especially meaningful to be opening a store in the city where I grew up, and it’s wonderful to bring Nobody’s Child to a place that has always felt like home.”
The Cambridge store opening adds to Nobody’s Child’s growing retail presence, joining standalone stores in London’s Carnaby Street, Covent Garden and Spitalfields, as well as its St Albans, Brighton, Leeds, Windsor, Harrogate, and Bluewater shopping centre ,locations.
In April, Nobody’s Child announced a second collaboration with accessories brand Elizabeth Scarlett – and to mark the partnership, the two organisations donated £15,000 each to Blue Marine Foundation.
The charity is dedicated to protecting and restoring life in the ocean, which makes its arrival at Grand Arcade this summer all the more fitting.
