Department store group Selfridges has launched ‘Resellfridges: The Wedding’, a new concept offering pre-loved dresses and other formal outfits for weddings.
As part of its ‘Project Earth’ sustainability commitments, which were announced last year, the concept arrives at the retailer’s Corner Shop destination in its London’s Oxford Street store. It will stay in place there for the next five weeks.
The Resellfridges platform in general offers customers a curation of rare, pre-loved dresses and other products from several big name brands in-store and online.
Now much of what one needs to complete a wedding wardrobe – from designer dresses and upcycled menswear suits, to vintage wedding rings and accessories – is included in the edit. Consumers can also access an upcycling services and a rental offering for an entire wedding party.
It is another example of a retailer looking at sales channels and propositions aimed at increasing the life of clothing, where items are reused, repaired, or rented rather than bought outright in the traditional manner. In a similar vein, LK Bennett and Moss Bros have both recently launched clothing rental subscriptions.
Sebastian Manes, executive buying & merchandising director, said: “This year more than ever, our customers are being more considered in how they live and shop and weddings are no exception.
“As we continue exploring circular models through Project Earth, we’re excited to bring a unique experience to Selfridges for brides, grooms and guests looking to celebrate weddings in a more earth-conscious way.”
During the next five weeks, the Corner Shop will also be home to upcycling and repairs services for those looking to give new life to treasured outfits. Through The Restory, customers can repair a broken handbag, repaint leather scuffs or re-dye a favourite pair of heels.
The Selfridges Rental offering, meanwhile, allows brides, grooms and guests the opportunity to try something new from £20 for four days’ use, before sending it back for someone else to hire.
Vintage edits from ReSee, Rokit Vintage and Vout Vintage, alongside a collection from Mon Vintage which features pieces from brands such as Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent and Alaïa, are all available at the Corner Shop.
