‘Positive action’: Natura adopts Hurd to keep workforce aligned on climate strategy

Brazil-based global beauty and personal care company Natura has enlisted climate educator platform Hurd to keep its workforce up to speed with the latest goings on in the sustainability space and to help ensure the business stays on track for its green goals.

The Natura-Hurd Climate Education Programme, announced earlier this month to coincide with COP30 in Brazil, will result in Natura’s 10,000+ employees gaining access to the Hurd app, enabling them to take climate-positive action within their jobs.

Natura has translated four of UK-based Hurd’s climate lessons from English into Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. The tie-up means Natura’s global teams can gain access to the knowledge, motivation, and practical tools supplied by the app-based climate tech company.

Hurd’s stated aim is to make climate learning inclusive, engaging, and culturally relevant. It says it is for anyone who’s motivated to take climate action at work but has no idea where to start, and provides the opportunity to join a community of like-minded people and share success stories as and when they arise.

Char Love, chief international advocacy officer at Natura, commented: “Natura’s passion for protecting and restoring the natural world sits at the heart of everything we do.

“And this commitment must live across the entire organisation – not just within senior management. This partnership with Hurd ensures that thousands of our employees gain the skills, understanding, and agency to deliver on the regenerative business model we are so deeply committed to.”

Natura has a 2030 target to achieve bet zero emissions across its operations, ensure that all packaging is reusable or compostable, and source a significant share of its key ingredients from smallholders using regenerative farming practices. The 2050 vision is for the business to be a fully regenerative company, creating a net-positive impact for nature, communities, and the economy – and this means ensuring all its suppliers follow regenerative practices, while becoming more transparent about its work across the business.

Sophie Lambin, founder & CEO of Hurd, added: “Hurd was founded to unlock a vital yet often underestimated force in tackling the climate crisis – the power of people at work to drive meaningful change.

“We’re thrilled to partner with a purpose-led leader like Natura, creating tailored learning experiences for its employees. Together, we’re building a partnership that benefits not only the planet but also the business world, helping Natura and its people strengthen its capacity to innovate, adapt, and lead in a changing global landscape.”

Businesses from all sectors are building in educational programmes for their staff, to help support sustainability strategy and climate knowledge.

Last year, food company Danone launched a global training programme to help prepare its workforce for an artificial intelligence- and sustainability-influenced future. Its “DanSkills” initiative is supported by a €100 million budget between 2024 and 2030 and aims to upskill all 100,000 employees for the jobs of the future and attract new talent.

Spain-based fashion retailer Mango announced last year that 250 employees, including those in design, buying, and quality assessment, were to receive sustainability training as part a collaboration with Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda de Madrid, an institution linked to the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
