Decathlon buy back scheme

‘Buy back bonus’: Decathlon offers customers further incentive to trade in old bikes

Sports equipment retailer Decathlon is offering customers an additional 20% on top of the ‘buy back’ value on each bike traded in at its stores over the coming fortnight.

In a move it said would help parents prepare for Christmas gifting and clear space at home, Decathlon is running the special offer until 2 November across the UK. Customers will need to be a Decathlon loyalty scheme member to access the offer – and it is free to sign up to the programme.

The ‘buy back’ scheme is part of Decathlon’s efforts to help consumers keep their preloved items in circulation, and receive money for items they no longer need. It is also a central pillar of the retailer’s commercial sustainability strategy as it stops equipment being thrown away and Decathlon is able to create another revenue stream selling second-hand goods.

Customers can return bikes of any brand to be assessed by Decathlon’s in-store team and then receive a gift card with the 20% additional bonus included.

Chris Allen, sustainability leader at Decathlon UK, remarked: “We know that children can quickly outgrow or fall out of love with their bikes, resulting in them rusting in a shed or even worse, going to landfill.

“By offering a bonus on our buy back scheme, we are helping parents clear out their shed, gear up for Christmas by giving them additional funds to put towards a new gift, while preloved bikes get a second life with another child who’ll enjoy the ride just as much.”

He added: “Over 1,000 items were returned during this year’s Easter buy back promotion, and we hope to achieve greater success ahead of Christmas and make quality bikes more accessible for all families.”

Bikes were the first products included in the Decathlon’s buy back offering when it launched in 2023. The programme has since grown to cover more than 50 items across 15 sports – from fitness gear and racquets to kayaks, paddleboards, golf clubs and camping equipment – helping perfectly good products find new homes.

Decathlon has been quick to launch initiatives aimed at supporting a more circular economy, but did pause its rental offering earlier in 2025 to focus on resale.
