The new Finisterre London store has officially opened its repair workshop, allowing consumers to get their garments amended and learn about how to take care and mend textiles.
The outdoor fashion brand opened a shop in Neal Street in London’s Covent Garden area in May, selling its core range alongside preloved items brought back to market via its partnership with Reskinned.
But a key part of the Finisterre proposition is its commitment to circularity, operating with the mantra “the most sustainable product is the one you already own”. It already operates repair workshops across the UK, including in its Bristol and Cornwall stores, but now Finisterre London has been added to the network.
Consumers looking to repair their items can drop into the Neal Street store every Wednesday to Friday to chat to the Finisterre London ‘Lived and Loved’ crew who can advise and help repair their gear. The retailer offers paid-for services to fix items, and its sells a range of equipment to enable at-home repairs.
To celebrate the launch of the Finisterre London workshop, the business is holding a customisation and repair workshop alongside Rerun Streetwear and illustrator, Anna Mills.
The event on Thursday 5 September will provide guidance on embroidery, screen printing, and repairing clothes. Those who purchase tickets can bring any clothing item into the workshop – it doesn’t have to be Finisterre branded – and indulge in an evening of circular thinking that could help bring would-be waste items back to life.
Cornwall-based textile artist Amy Brock-Morgan heads up the Finisterre Lived & Loved repairs team.
She says of the circular services offered by Finisterre that “it’s all about how to scale repair to provide our customers and audience a superior service whilst developing and responding to business needs and pushing industry standards”.
In a blog on the Finisterre website, she says: “We’re always looking at the evolution of the customer journey and how we can best educate, develop mindset, and provide solutions for how our customers connect with their kit.”
