Second drop: New M&S rental collection on Hirestreet

A new Marks & Spencer (M&S) rental collection has been made available on specialist retail hire platform, Hirestreet.

The spring launch is the second drop of M&S products on the site, following the beginning of the partnership in November 2021. M&S said the new collaboration represents the biggest ever retailer collaboration on Hirestreet.

Customer insight gathered from Hirestreet on the initial M&S rental collection found that 98% of consumers would rent M&S clothing again from the platform. So here we are.

The new M&S rental collection includes an M&S Autograph Irish Linen Blend Belted Dress (RRP £89), which is available to rent from £16 on Hirestreetuk.com. In total, there will be 40 new season womenswear pieces made available from M&S’s in-house brands Autograph and Per Una, as well as – for the first time – a range of M&S Collection items.

Hirestreet allows four-day rental of these products, with prices for some items starting at £10.

Since the tie-up began last year, the M&S team has worked with Hirestreet to test and learn about clothing rental behaviours. Although fashion rental is typically associated with formal dressing, 53% of Hirestreet customers rent M&S products for casual social events, according to their findings.

Richard Price, managing director of clothing & home at M&S, said: “At M&S our focus is ensuring our product is more relevant, more often for our customers’ lives – that’s not just what we offer but how.

“We know customers are increasingly interested in the circular economy and rental which is why we started our exciting partnership with Hirestreet last year. The feedback so far has been great.”

Rosie Hartman, strategy lead at Hirestreet, remarked: “With a reputation for stylish and quality clothing, M&S items have proved popular from the moment they launched on Hirestreet.”

M&S rental on Hirestreet is one of several perceived greener retailing moves made by the business, as part of its Plan A sustainability strategy refresh which was announced last autumn.
