Ocado PLM integrated into carbon accounting platform

‘More informed decision making’: Ocado integrates PLM with Mondra platform

Ocado has become the first retailer to integrate its product lifecycle management (PLM) system with Mondra’s carbon accounting platform.

Ocado was already working alongside Mondra to assess the environmental impact of its products but the integration of Click-PLM is expected to provide the retailer with better supply chain intelligence while allowing it to automate certain aspects of Scope 3 reporting. The Mondra-Click-PLM linkup essentially connects live product and volume data directly into the retailer’s carbon reporting processes.

It should now enable Ocado to track changes in its product portfolio more dynamically and use carbon data to support sustainability decision-making more efficiently, according to Mondra.

Mondra, which also works with retailers such as Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Co-op, Asda, Lidl, Aldi, Pets at Home, Nando’s, Starbucks, and Sainsbury’s, and suppliers including Avara, Samworth Brothers, Greencore, Pilgrim’s, Dunbia, Cranswick, and Bakkavor, said Ocado’s decision prompts a move way from static reporting towards a system-based approach to Scope 3 management.

Through its established coalition with the British Retail Consortium and its work with non-governmental organisations, Mondra wants to establish a unified standard for measuring product-level sustainability performance.

Laura Fernandez, senior sustainability manager at Ocado, remarked: “Integrating our product lifecycle data with Mondra allows us to automate key elements of our Scope 3 emissions accounting and better understand how changes in our product portfolio affect our carbon footprint.

“This supports more informed decision-making as we continue to develop our sustainability approach.”

Jason Barrett, CEO of Mondra, which recently announced it had merged with European impact assessment technology company Inoqo, said: “Ocado’s decision to use Mondra’s ‘data as a service’ reflects a clear shift toward system-based, product-level Scope 3 management.

“By integrating live product and volume data from Click-PLM directly into our carbon accounting platform, Ocado is moving beyond static reporting to embed carbon intelligence into everyday product and commercial decisions. This kind of integration shows how high quality, connected data can make sustainability reporting more automated, accurate and ultimately more actionable at scale.”
