Currys - the home of Cash for Trash

Raising the stakes: Currys increases Cash for Trash voucher reward to £10

UK electricals retailer Currys is currently offering consumers a £10 Cash for Trash voucher reward for recycling their technology through its stores.

Anyone dropping off old electricals at any Currys UK store will receive at least a £10 voucher towards a £50 minimum spend, which is double the usual reward and in place until 8 July.

Cash for Trash means consumers can recycle any tech with a plug or battery, regardless of where it was originally purchased. Upping the return for consumers using the scheme gives the retailer an opportunity to understand if the bigger prize contributes to more recycling.

It is a positive option for customers looking to clear their unwanted e-waste from cupboards and drawers at home, but it is also in Currys’ interests to drive more recycling because it can provide a revenue boost through repairing and reselling goods, and harvesting additional spare parts to use for that process.

Underpinning the whole Cash for Trash operation is Currys’ repair and recycling operation in Newark, Nottinghamshire – one of Europe’s largest tech repair centres.

Paula Coughlan, chief people, communications & sustainability officer at Currys, who appeared on stage with Green Retail World editor Ben Sillitoe at Retail Technology Show 2025, said: “This limited-time promotion not only incentivises customers to recycle their old tech, but also helps tackle the growing e-waste crisis in the UK.

“We’re proud to be helping customers save, while making sure their unwanted tech is processed responsibly. It’s better for us, better for customers, and better for the planet to help keep tech in the hands of the people that need it for as long as possible.”

Currys said it can recycle almost any tech, but encourages consumers not to bring in any sensitive or unhygienic items. Vapes are also excluded, and the retailer advises consumers to wipe personal data from devices prior to recycling in stores.
