The Decathlon buyback scheme has been given an Easter weekend boost, with the sports retailer’s loyalty members able to access more value from donating their old and unwanted products.
In a move to boost participation in the circular economy – but also to help reinforce the retailer’s Second Life offering which enables consumers to purchase second-hand goods for lower prices than if they were to buy brand new items – Decathlon members are receiving 20% extra on their standard buyback value for three days over Easter.
The new Decathlon buyback offer is available nationwide, running across more than 40 stores across the UK.
Consumers can trade in their used camping and sports equipment and receive their reward, which is awarded in the form of a Decathlon gift card which they can use on future transactions with the business.
The concept of Decathlon buyback and the wider Second Life scheme is to help reduce waste while generating additional value from goods already in circulation.
Decathlon buyback was launched in 2023 for Decathlon-brand bicycles but it was expanded in 2024 to include camping gear, kayaks, paddleboards, and other sports kit. The focus has been placed on some of the items consumers might purchase, use sparingly, and then no longer wish to keep.
Those interested in using the programme can head online and gain an estimated valuation of what their equipment is worth before booking an in-store appointment to complete the transaction.
Running a special offer over Easter also gives Decathlon an opportunity to encourage more people to sign up to its membership programme, which among several special member-only deals offers the chance to receive digital receipts, extended warranty on purchases, and other special deals.
