Re:Yak: Lucy & Yak PreLoved scheme expands online

Lifestyle brand Lucy & Yak has announced its PreLoved garment take-back scheme has been expanded to the online world.

Part of a wider Re:Yak programme, which is already available in stores and offers customers a chance to donate items they no longer wear in exchange for a voucher to spend with the brand, PreLoved can now be accessed on the company’s website. The idea behind the move is to make the scheme, which launched in 2023, more accessible.

Consumers can send in their Lucy & Yak clothing in any condition, and will receive a voucher to spend with the brand either online or in-store.

Items collected by the retailer will be resold or, if too damaged to resell, will be upcycled and repaired by Lucy & Yak’s in-house seamstress, who is based in the Re:Yak studio at the company’s distribution centre in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Mended items will be available for purchase through Lucy & Yak’s network of shops, with limited one off items, such as hand embroidered pieces, from the Re:Yak Studio made available at the Junction 32 outlet in Castleford. The Outlet features a range of exclusive imperfect items, all aimed at keeping products out of landfills and bringing Lucy & Yak to more people, according to the retailer.

Lucy Greenwood, co-founder of Lucy & Yak, commented: “When me and Chris first launched Lucy & Yak in 2017, we realised that, if we wanted to be truly circular, we had a responsibility for the lifecycle of anything we created, even after the customer has ownership of the piece.

“In 2023 we launched our first buyback scheme in our shops, which was a huge success and instantly highlighted the demand for an online presence. Now rebranded as PreLoved, this has been a real passion project and I can’t wait to see it expand into further regions in the future.”

Lucy & Yak’s PreLoved scheme is currently only available in the UK but the plan is to expand it to other regions in the future.
