The Perfume Shop now part of GXO's shared transport network

Shared transport network: The Perfume Shop avoiding ‘empty space’ in store deliveries

Fragrance retailer The Perfume Shop is confident of reducing its environmental impact, urban congestion, and transportation costs through a new partnership with supply chain business GXO.

The contract logistics provider will provide weekly deliveries to more than 200 The Perfume Shop sites through its shared transport network, which involves multiple retailers and brands using the same vehicle rather than running their own separate vans and trucks.

Supply chain sustainability starts with efficiency of existing networks and this is an example of a retailer working on just that.

GXO’s shared transport fleet combines deliveries for multiple retailers, arguing its reduces the number of vehicles driving in and out of already busy city centres.

GXO said, on average, it will operate vehicles with deliveries from five different customers. The shared transport network typically results in a vehicle stopping at eight to ten locations throughout the journey, and is being viewed by a growing number of businesses as a way to reduce total emissions across their operations.

Gill Smith, managing director at The Perfume Shop, commented: “It is important for us to have a logistics partner that can offer regular deliveries to our stores whilst still being environmentally efficient.

“Partnering with GXO meant we found a solution that avoided empty space in vehicles and kept our operation efficient and cost effective. Since working alongside GXO, we have been able to maintain our excellent customer experience whilst improving our impact on the environment.”

Richard Ball, director for the shared transport network at GXO, added: “Shared transport networks help retailers like The Perfume Shop reduce their impact on the environment, whilst benefiting from lower transportation costs.

“High street locations are vital for all retailers, particularly omnichannel retailers, and it’s essential they receive the stock they need in the most efficient way possible.”
