Ex-Avon calling: B&Q appoints Joanna Gluzman as responsible business director

DIY chain B&Q has a new responsible business director – with Joanna Gluzman starting in the role this week.

Gluzman has more than 25 years of experience in environmental, social and governance (ESG), and investor relations roles – most recently as chief sustainability officer at FMCG business PZ Cussons. In her previous job, Gluzman oversaw sustainability strategy and implementation internationally.

Prior to joining PZ Cussons, B&Q’s new responsible business director was group director of sustainability for Avon Cosmetics and group director of ESG engagement at the BT Group.

As responsible business director at B&Q, the new recruit takes responsibility for leading B&Q’s sustainability strategy and overall roadmap, ensuring its delivery across the company and on B&Q’s journey to carbon net zero. The wider Kingfisher Group, which owns B&Q, has rolled out several supply chain initiatives recently aimed at reducing carbon footprint and helping make environmental change across the value chain.

Gluzman called B&Q “a business with a mission to help with improving customers’ living environments”.

“The opportunity we have in helping millions of people to make sustainable choices is huge and I am looking forward to working with the B&Q team to take the already fantastic achievements in this area to the next level,” she added.

Paul White, commercial director of B&Q, called Gluzman “highly regarded and experienced” and welcomed her as “an extremely strong addition to our leadership team”.

“Joanna’s appointment is an important pivot point in building our internal and external credibility across all our ESG topics, with a particular focus on sustainability,” he continued.

“We look forward to benefitting from her expertise and insight in leading this important pillar of our strategy.”

Kingfisher, which also owns Screwfix, Castorama, Brico Dépôt, TradePoint and KoçtaşScope, said last week that almost half of its sales in the last financial year came from what it describes as sustainable home products.

It noted £6.4 billion of revenue in the 2023-24 financial year – accounting for 49.4% of overall group sales and 60.1% of the group’s own exclusive brands sales – was from its definition of sustainable home products.
